HISA's motto "learning beyond borders" encompasses not only the idea of studying abroad, but also of allowing you the opportunity to discover and develop your individual talents free of the normal pressures. Learning and artistic expression often demand a range of experience beyond routine and predictable structure. The Semester/Year Abroad Program encourages its participants to work at their own pace and express their ideas and opinions in an open and unselfconscious way.
A Full Semester Student may design a program tailored to his/her specific artistic or academic ambitions. You may concentrate in either a single discipline or a schedule across the curriculum. In every case, you will be able to work in small groups and often individually with teachers and artists who are able to devote their full attention to your creative and intellectual development. Field Trips and Excursions are an important part of HISA's vision of integrating academic and experiential learning. Just some of the marvelous places you will wander through as part of our program: Delos, the sacred island of Apollo; Naxos, home to the god Dionysos; Antiparos, with its famous stalactite cave; and Mykonos, with its windmills and jet-set nightlife. An optional teacher-led 8-day academic and creative excursion to Turkey (cost: $300 incl. transportation, hotel, site fees and visa) is now a permanent feature of HISA: the Aegean Study Abroad imperative.
